The Central University Library of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani was established in 1972 with separate state-of-the art building to fulfill the academic needs of the students, faculties and extension staff of the university. The library has become an important enter for learning with its unique status with respect to collection of text books, reference books, journals, periodicals, e-Resources and databases coupled with need base collection and development. The aim of University Library is to integrate library services and practices into the teaching and learning process and to increase ability to import and facilitate knowledge acquisition, student learning and the attainment of lifelong learning skills. The University Library with its available resources is continuously trying to enhance student learning and to develop proficiency in information access, retrieval and integration. With the increasing impact of ICT on higher education, the library has adopted ICT tools for the effective library services. The library is computerized with Koha library management software. With the installation of RFID, the libraryhas moved one more step towards modern library. The grants received form ICAR for strengthening of library has been effectively utilized for the creation of modern facilities in the library. “The University Library is committed to provide an easy and ready access to library resources for updating the knowledge base of the students and staff.
Our endeavor is to keep the users of our library abreast of the state- of-the art inputs in respect of their discipline, so that they can face confidently challenges thrown open by 21st Century. We are streamlining our concerted efforts to build our library as an excellent center for disseminating information”. As per the directives from ICAR, the university library and the constituent college libraries are using Koha Library Management System (LMS). The in house activities of the university library are computerized with KOHA library management system. The bibliographic data of the university library holdings and its constituent college libraries holding is hosted on a central cloud server. The university library has made available the facility of Web OPAC by 24 X 7 to its stake holders. With the help of Web OPAC the library users can search the availability of the books at their fingertips. The bibliographic data of the university library and its constituent college libraries is also available on the ICAR- IDEAL (Indian Digital Ensemble of Agricultural Libraries). The development of the user friendly library mobile app is in final stage. The university library has installed RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) from the grants received from ICAR. The RFID system is proven useful for the smooth functioning of the various activities such as book lending, theft detection and to identify misplacement of the books on shelf. With the help of RFID system the students can self check out the library books. In the state of Maharashtra, VNMKV, Uiversity Library is the first library who implemented RFID system.
